About LumberMeasure
LumberMeasure is an independent educational calculator for people measuring boards and estimating a lumber budget. It combines a mixed-board list with a visible calculation, so you can see how thickness, width, length and quantity affect the result.
What the tool calculates
The tool calculates rectangular volume from your entered dimensions. You can add a price per board foot to estimate a base material cost and choose an extra allowance for planning. Prices are supplied by you; the tool does not retrieve current lumber prices or produce a supplier quote.
A board-foot result describes volume. It does not establish a lumber grade, a finished cutting yield, structural suitability or the billing rules of a lumberyard. Nominal sizes, measured sizes and commercial tallies can differ. Our measurement guides explain those distinctions.
How the explanations are prepared
The guides use original worked examples and link to primary educational material from sawmill equipment manufacturers and lumber suppliers. The examples state their input dimensions and assumptions so you can reproduce the arithmetic. Illustrative prices and measurements are labelled as examples.
We do not represent the calculator as a professional inspection, a certified tally service or a substitute for a supplier's written terms. A correction can be reported through the contact page.
What happens to your inputs
Calculations run in your browser. The site does not send your board dimensions, quantities or prices to a calculation server. CSV export and print use your local browser. Optional site analytics are described in our privacy notice.
Open the calculator or begin with board feet, linear feet and square feet.
